About me

So, let me tell you about myself. I've been a technologist since I was 7 years old. I remembered building my own model car with 2 AAA batteries and a DC motor.

That was my childhood back in the 70s, where I was born and brought up in a small town in Malaysia called Banting. I spent my primary and secondary school there until my university entrance, then departed to Johor (a southern state in Malaysia) for a year, followed by 4 subsequent years at the Kuala Lumpur campus.

Graduated with 1st Class Honours in Electrical/Eletronics Engineering (BSc) and started my first job as a PIE (Process & Industrial Engineer) at Likom Malacca. It only lasted for a year before moving into the high-tech telecom industry as a Microwave Transmission Engineer at Binariang Sdn. Bhd., which eventually became Maxis Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

It was a very hands-on experience, from tower climbing for LOS surveys to MW antenna alignments and equipment commissioning, an end-to-end site build from scratch. After ~5,000 sites, I was given the opportunity for exposure to fibre optics technology, where I started building fibre networks (Metro & Backbone). Initially equipped with a binocular and an altimeter, I have to add a power meter and OTDR to my tool inventory to carry out my work.

Fast forward to 5G, I see network services evolve from calls & SMSes to high-speed internet browsing and applications.

Not only did the network change, the lifestyle of people and organization improved, especially in terms of productivity and accessibility.
